Work management

Work management is the day-to-day organization of tasks, owners, deadlines and priorities across a team. Project management plans one project to a defined end; work management covers everything a team is doing at once, across all projects and clients.

Work management vs project management

  • Scope. Project management runs one project from brief to delivery. Work management runs the whole queue.
  • The question. “Will this project land on time?” against “Who is doing what this week, and what slips if we add one more thing?”
  • The views. Project plans use timelines and milestones. Work management uses boards, lists, calendars and workload.

What a work management tool needs for client work

For a team that bills clients, a generic task board is not enough. Each task should belong to a project and a client, carry an owner and a date, and collect the hours spent on it. That last link is what lets the hours become cost and the cost become a margin.

How PLYNTUM handles it

Company boards with list, board, calendar, week and timeline views, custom fields, dependencies, subtasks and recurring task templates are on every plan. Every task belongs to a project and a client, and hours are logged against the task. See work management in PLYNTUM.
