Project profitability and receivables for finance teams

Revenue is visible. Delivery cost isn’t. The invoice tells you what was billed. It does not explain the team’s effort, direct expenses or the amount still outstanding.

Key facts

Cost next to revenue
Logged hours and direct expenses are attached to the same project as its invoices, so project profitability is a report, not a spreadsheet.
Reviewed before invoiced
Time reaches an invoice only after a lead approves it, so the figure a client receives has already been checked.
Receivables
Invoices, payments and the remaining balance per client are tracked in the workspace; recurring invoices are available from the Core plan.
Not included
No bookkeeping ledger, no bank feeds and no tax filing; exports go to your accounting system.

What stays connected.

The details behind the workflow, including what is available and what is still planned.

The four numbers behind one project

Take an $8,000 website project. Logged time on it is 120 hours; at $35 an hour that is $4,200. Direct expenses are $1,000. What remains before company overhead is $2,800 — a 35% margin, not the 100% an invoice alone suggests.

Each of those numbers has a source you can open: the hours belong to named tasks, the expenses to receipts, the revenue to an invoice. There is no separate finance spreadsheet to reconcile at month end, because the finance view and the work view read the same records.

Billed is not collected

Of the same $8,000, suppose $4,000 has been paid and $4,000 is outstanding. Both facts are true at once: the project earned its margin, and the company is $4,000 short of what it planned to hold this month.

PLYNTUM keeps revenue and cash apart for that reason. Receivables are tracked as their own record, so “who owes us and since when” is a list rather than a search through email.

When the margin looks wrong

A project that ends below its expected margin usually has one of three causes, and all three are visible: hours recorded well above the estimate, direct expenses nobody planned, or a scope that grew without the price moving. Because time, expenses and requests are attached to the project, the cause is traceable rather than arguable.

That is also what makes the next estimate better. The same kind of project, priced with last quarter's real cost instead of last quarter's assumption, is the cheapest improvement available to a service company.

Available today, and what is planned

Invoices, expenses, receivables and project profitability are available today; recurring invoices and the client portal come with the Core plan; what-if forecasts and full audit access with Scale. All prices are quoted in USD.

Manual scoring and probability-based sales forecasts are available from Scale, subject to CRM permissions. Deeper AI analyses remain in development and are labelled as planned. Before purchasing, check the current plan limits and checkout terms in the PLYNTUM app — the app, not this page, is the source of truth for what your subscription includes.
